At River Street Marketplace, a new community destination in San Juan Capistrano’s historic Los Rios district, we designed four public restrooms that are both durable and beautifully considered. Public restrooms don’t need to be boring, so we thoughtfully sourced materials that balance function with style. A commercial-grade wallpaper featuring the swallow bird—an emblem of the historic city—adds a meaningful touch, while wood-like partitions bring warmth and avoid the sterile feel of traditional restrooms. Vintage-inspired light fixtures in burnt red and deep navy play off the Americana spirit of the space, ensuring that even the most practical areas feel intentional and connected to the marketplace’s rich character.
